From Cedar Key, Florida, we had a great view of the close conjunction between Venus
and Mars over the waters between Cedar Key and the Crystal River area.

February 20
From Cedar Key, Florida, we were able to see the two planets Venus and Mars approaching
their conjunction over the waters between Cedar Key and the Crystal River area, which
will occur two mornings hence. Note how
the ecliptic makes a much steeper angle with the horizon than in Virginia; compare
this view to that of Venus and Mars on February
28, 2022.

February 7
This morning we have a closer pairing of Venus and the Moon to enjoy low over the
horizon. The stars of Sagittarius skim the treetops and rooftops looking out
over the Rappahannock River valley.

February 6
The crescent Moon joins Venus in the morning sky, although still a day away from the
closest conjunction. Venus is almost back to being on the ecliptic, while the
Moon on the other hand is well south of it at this point in its orbit. In
preparation for the eclipse in April, I tried some different combinations of cameras
and lenses / telescopes on the Sun; we can see the new and very large sunspot group
near the left limb.
