Variety of Sun, Moon, and Planet Scenes

October 29

A supposedly large and active sunspot has rotated into view and by now had neared the center of the Sun's disk, so I decided to try getting another image owing to the perfect skies.

October 27

Mars is almost exactly at its stationary point before beginning retrograde motion toward opposition in early December.  Here we see it hovering near ζ Tauri, finally having just edged north of the ecliptic, where it will remain for the duration of its retrograde loop.  While we found Mars right after midnight on the 27th, we had to wait another 18 hours until the next evening to catch the crescent Moon low in the west near Antares.

October 15

Mercury is in the midst of its best apparation of the year for northern hemisphere observers, with a good elongation, good ecliptic angle compared to the horizon, it happens to be north of the ecliptic which makes it even better, and its magnitude is greater than usual.  Can't miss that!!!

October 9

The day was beautiful and clear so I got a nice shot of the large grouping of sunspots, and then the evening was the same, so time for a shot of the wide sky, from Saturn on the meridian to Jupiter and the Moon over in the east.
