Herschel 400ii Objects
in Pisces

Most of these galaxies in Pisces belong
to the Pisces-Perseus supercluster that
stretches from Pisces and Pegasus, then
through Triangulum and Aries to Perseus
at an average distance of more than 200
million light years.  That some of them
are nearly as bright as galaxies in the
Virgo cluster is indicative of just how
massive and luminous they have to be in
order to appear so bright; many of them
are three to four times as far as Virgo
cluster galaxies and nevertheless shine
in the magnitude 11 to 13 range.  Those
otherwise featureless gray patches take
on a new dimension when considering the
perspective.
