Venus is in the midst of its current evening appar- ition, which began in January and will end with in- ferior conjunction on October 24. Now it continues to gain elongation and altitude, moving eastward in Taurus as it heads towards its conjunction with the king of planets next month near where they met last August in Gemini. Venus is magnitude -3.95 on this date, and although it did not show up on the image, was situated just above the open cluster NGC 1746.
