September 29
Our beautiful early autumn weather began to turn on this Thursday, September 29,
as the cloudiness from Hurricane Ian enters our area. Before the deluge arrived,
high clouds created conditions ripe for a complete circular 22° halo.

September 24
In case it's cloudy on Monday the 26th, I wanted to get a shot of Jupiter closest
to opposition to document its brightness, exceptionally bright this year owing to
the closeness of opposition to Jupiter's perihelion. We again see Neptune
and Juno joining the scene.

September 23
We finally got our first day of fall weather here in central Virginia, on the first
day of fall as it turned out, and I took advantage by taking my camera and tracker
up to the roof of my house to try to get some pictures of the summer constellations
over the distant treeline.

Mars has passed the Pleiades and the Hyades/Aldebaran on its way toward the
stationary point in its motion in early November. It will retrograde to
opposition in mid-December and then barely make it back to being even with
Aldebaran at its other stationary point post-opposition before finally resuming
its eastward (prograde) motion.

September 19
The evening of September 19 was clear and mild here in central Virginia, so I
was able to get several shots of the outer planets and a couple of asteroids.
From west to east, we have Saturn, then well to the south Vesta, Juno,
Neptune, and finally Jupiter.

September 9
The full Moon is situated in Aquarius, half way between Jupiter and Saturn. This
is the official harvest Moon for 2022, even though it comes several weeks before the
autumnal equinox and (I think) before most of the crops are harvested. Good
thing all the heavy farm machinery comes equipped with headlights, because I figure
it will be closer to new Moon when they do harvest LOL.

September 8
The almost full Moon just passed Saturn in Capricornus and over the next few nights will move
over to join Jupiter in Pisces.
