NGC 4313 was not as difficult for me as NGC 4294 and NGC 4299 were; I star-hopped up to the location from the two stars east of NGC 4299 and noticed what I thought was NGC 4313 without consulting the charts, so I noted it as clearly more distinct than 4294 or 4299. The charts and DSS image verified my identification as being correct; this galaxy did not require averted vision to see, although it certainly was more noticeable with averted vision. I cannot claim to have noticed the extreme elongated appearance of 4313 in the eyepiece here, but with the same telescope from a dark location, I think the needle shape would be detectable. |
