NGC 2316 is a combination emission and reflection nebula which I found to be very faint.  I chose to star-hop to it from M50 by going west from M50 to a bright star, then slightly farther to the west to a fainter star; from there I moved north along a line of three stars, the last one a nice double, and then from there continuing north to another unevenly spaced line of three stars.  At the last one, turn east to find the nebula.  I could not see anything at first using 76x, so I switched to 123x and was able to detect it using a broadband nebula filter. I saw a hazy spot surrounding two stars oriented north-south, or perhaps one of them was the central region of the nebula?  I could not tell by just looking at it in the eyepiece.  But it was clearly non-stellar and the difference between the unfiltered view and with the nebula filter told me I did indeed see it.
