This view was toward the southeast from my location on U.S. Highway 90 west of Del Rio, and unfortunately the light dome from that town and its neighbor across the border in Mexico spoils the view of the most interesting part of the sky, which is the far southern Milky Way in Puppis and Vela. Nevertheless, we can see the western edge of the open clusters adorning this part of our galaxy, including some large groupings identified by Per Collinder. As usual, in this part of the sky, we are anchored near the southern horizon by the great Canopus. Unannotated image. |
