With my modified Canon 5D camera and a 150 mm lens, I attempted to record the reddish emission nebulae in the center of Auriga, known as IC 405 and IC 410. In this view from a dark location astride U.S. 90 northwest of Del Rio, near the Mexican border, we are looking at M38, NGC 1907, and faint representations of the two emission regions. The bright star at lower right is Elnath, or β Tauri. This image resulted from a single 30 second exposure. Unannotated image. |
