This stack of six 3-second images of the area around the double cluster shows the relationship of the two clusters comprising it and the large, diffuse cluster known as Stock 2.  I always wondered why the Double Cluster, the two members of which are also known by the legacy names h and χ Persei, was not included in Messier's catalog.  I have read that because it was already known to the ancients, there was no reason to include it in a catalog of objects "that are not comets."   Unannotated image.
