Mars has spent most of the year buried deep in the sunrise twilight glow, making very slow progress in escaping it, but since July it has gained significant elongation from the Sun and is now visible in a dark sky for several hours.  Here we see it in western Gemini, near the stars mu and eta Geminorum.  Mars is at magnitude +1.28 this morning.  Unannotated image.
