Venus finally overtook Jupiter in central Gemini, resulting in their great conjunction of 2025. Venus shines at magnitude -3.98 and Jupiter at -1.96, separated by 51'59", closer than most of their conjunctions that occur in a dark sky. This conjunction mirrors almost exactly one that occurred on August 6, 2001, and will itself be repeated again by the next one in the series, on August 18, 2049. That conjunction will be even closer than the current one, with only 33'51" separating them at their closest point. Unannotated image. |
