Nova Lupi, officially designated as V0462 Lupus, burst into view on June 12, 2025 as a magnitude 8 or 9 object, and from there quickly brightened to a magnitude of +5.6 on June 21, and which on this date was estimated to be anywhere from +5.9 to +6.1 by visual observers on the AAVSO site. Although not a very scientific method, zooming into the image on which I recorded the nova, it appears to be just slightly dimmer than the star SAO 225474 south of it, which is magnitude +5.75, so my image corroborates the observations recorded on AAVSO. A great finder chart and explanation can be found at this Sky & Telescope article. Unannotated image. |
