| Mercury is nicely posititioned almost directly above the Sun along the ecliptic in the autumn, here shining at magnitude -0.75 (which makes it brighter than all stars save Sirius, being now marginally brighter than Canopus at magnitude -0.74). Today it is closest to Regulus, and from its position I would judge that those of us on the United States east coast got to see them at their closest. |
