Jupiter and Mercury are lined up along the ecliptic in the west after sunset during mid-March, although still quite far apart. On this evening, Jupiter shines at magnitude -2.12 and Mercury at magnitude -0.09, with a separation of 22°42'29" between them. Uranus is barely visible here at magnitude +5.81 above Jupiter. For the first time, we caught Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks in the frame, probably about magnitude +6.0 on this date since it appears slightly fainter than Uranus. Its track is carrying it toward Hamal and Jupiter in early April. |
