Jupiter reached its stationary point on the last day of the year in 2023, so now
we are in the second day of the period in which it resumes prograde motion (east
with respect to the stars). Uranus will continue its very slow retrograde
motion for most of January, only resuming prograde motion on the 27th. The
king of planets is at magnitude -2.63 this evening, with a diameter of 43.6" across
its equator. Uranus is at magnitude +5.67 and is a paltry 3.7" across.
