Mercury is just past the "greatest brilliancy" point of this apparition, which is the point at which it is theoretically most visible (a combination of intrinsic brightness and position in a dark sky).  Here we see it south of the ecliptic very close to the top of the lid of the teapot; it is magnitude -0.31 and 7.01" in diameter.
