Jupiter and Uranus are getting closer to their respective dates of opposition in Aries, coming up early next month (November 2 for Jupiter). In the middle of this evening, just after midnight local time on October 5, Jupiter is magnitude -2.85 with an equatorial diameter of 48.1", while Uranus is theoretically visible to the unaided eye at magnitude +5.65 with a diameter of 3.71". They are separated by only 8°32'17" tonight, and we note that they are both still south of the ecliptic. |
