Our next view, a little later in the evening, only shows Venus and the Pleiades above it; the foreground is provided by the Willis Hill Cemetery on Marye's Heights in the Fredericksburg National Battlefield. This cemetery dates from the mid- 1700's and was heavily damaged during the December 1862 Battle of Fredericksburg. Now the obelisk in the center of the cemetery seems to fire the ecliptic skyward towards Venus and the Pleiades. Compare this view with the scene 8 years ago, on April 11, 2015; this year, Venus will also pass the Pleiades on the 11th. |
