Neptune spent another year in eastern Aquarius in 2020, its apparition stretching from roughly April 2020 until March 2021 when it will become lost in the solar glare. Mars is following up its outstanding 2018 opposition year with another excellent opposition, this time not quite as large or bright, but placed higher in the sky (in Pisces) for northern hemisphere observers, so therefore in some ways more favorable. By this date, Mars is already quite impressive, shining at magnitude -0.04 and measuring 9.35" across, while Neptune is only +7.90. Unannotated image |
