Saturn spent the year 2012 in the constellation Virgo, coming to opposition on April 15, just four days after this image.  Saturn is near Spica in this picture, shining at magnitude +0.24, which is noticeably brighter than Spica, which is at magnitude +0.98.  They are on opposite sides of the ecliptic, so we see that when Saturn is on the "spring" side of the ecliptic (in other words, in the Leo - Virgo - Libra direction), it is north of that line just like Mars and Jupiter are.   Unannotated image.
