In August of 1993, I bought a used 55mm f/1.2 Nikkor lens at a camera shop in Boulder, Colorado and of course tried it out for some wide-field astrophotography.  I drove out to a location in the mountains of central Colorado near the town of Fairplay and got this picture of the summer Milky Way ~ the tracking and polar alignment must have been pretty good given the lack of distortion in the corners.  The only objectionable aspect here is the purple color of the sky ~ I wonder if that was the way Ektachrome film rendered it?  Unannotated image, Back
