In August of 1993, I bought a used 55mm f/1.2 Nikkor lens at a camera shop in Boulder, Colorado and of course tried it out for some wide-field astrophotography. My ability to track the stars was not very refined at the time, so I was using the lens wide open to capture as much light as possible; that explains the bloated stars and distortions at the edges LOL. Here we have a good view of the "Ophiuchus - Hercules off ramp" part of the summer Milky Way, focused on the three big open clusters from β Ophiuchi to the great double star θ Serpentis (Alya). The dark dust clouds lining the central axis of the Milky Way through Serpens, Aquila and Vulpecula at the top left are highlighted well here. Unannotated image, Back |
