I had a memorable trip to southern Texas in August 1993 ~ I didn't go to Big Bend National Park, but rather drove down to South Padre Island in an attempt to do some astronomy, but decided that wasn't suitable for some reason. I drove back up and stopped at a point near Carrizo Springs to take pictures. It was quite dark where I was except for some kind of bright light source due south which affected this picture in particular. The slide film I was using at the time showed the sky with a purplish tint. Many of the clusters and nebulae in the frame are marked. Carrizo Springs is at latitude 28°30' which is further south than any place in Big Bend. Back |
