![]() In this picture from December 1993, we see Jupiter beginning its next year by rising in the morning sky just on the border between Virgo and Libra. The unusual sky coloration is due to the volcanic aerosols in the sky from the 1991 eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines. This picture was taken somewhere in the vicinity of the reservoirs to the north and east of Boulder, Colorado, either Valmont or Baseline Reservoir. Jupiter was magnitude -1.80 on this date.
