In mid-summer of 1993, Mars and Jupiter are coming to the ends of their respective apparitions in the same area of the sky.  When this happens, Mars is of course very faint while Jupiter remains quite bright, wich is exactly the situation we observe here in western and central Virgo.  This scene was captured somewhere in the vicinity of Boulder, Colorado, with a view to the southwest over a distant ridgeline.  Jupiter is magnitude -1.80 and Mars is +1.65, with 9°39'37" separating them.  Unannotated image
