Jupiter is in Scorpius for 2019, and came to opposition on June 10, so it is still retrograding westward. Its magnitude on this evening is -2.28, brighter by far than any star. By luck I also captured the largest (but not brightest) asteroid, Ceres, near the head of Scorpius. Its magnitude at this point is a measley +8.79, which makes it considerably dimmer than many asteroids that are further down the list compared to 1 Ceres. Unannotated image |
