Venus and Jupiter underwent a very close conjunction on August 18, 2014, but I was unfortunately not able to catch them on that date, so this view is three days later when they had already separated to 3°51'45" instead of the extremely close 16' 26" at closest approach on the 18th.  This conjunction mirrors one that occurred 24 years earlier, in August of 1990, when I was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and could not see anything because of the horrible murk blanketing the Fayetteville area all summer there LOL.  The next conjunction in this series will occur on August 23, 2038, and as can be seen from the three charts, they are getting progressively later and lower in the sky.  Unannotated image.
